Fr. Kuri you were a stalwart, shining star.

Fr. Kuri you were a stalwart, shining star.

Introduction given by Rev. Sr. Sunitha AC, at  the Eucharistic Celebration during the funeral of Rev. Fr. Kuriacose  SJ at Jesuit Provincial House, Akkara Panaha,  Negombo.

‘The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died. God tested them and found them worthy of himself like gold in the furnace he tried them and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them.’ { Book of Wisdom Chapter 3 }
Fr. Kuriacose affectionately known by Kuri by thousands of friends and admirers was born in the holy grounds of Kerala, India. Leaving behind the boats he launched into deep with the sole desire to serve the Lord as a missionary in this little Island of Sri Lanka . He was a true follower of Christ and a faithful priest who walked on footsteps of St. Ignatius Loyola as a genuinely committed religious.
Fr. Kuri you were a stalwart, shining star. There is no death, stars go down to rise on some fairer shore.

Weeks may pass, months may pass, years may pass, ……… but memories linger on, and when they are pleasant memories of someone, we are happy that they remain in our thoughts. This is so true of Fr. Kuriacose.

He will always be remembered as a man of integrity, a man who was highly intelligent, and at the same time a man of natural wisdom and simplicity. For those of us who have worked with him closely when he was president, and then secretary of the CMRS, we experienced his human qualities. He showed great respect for all those with whom he came into contact, and brought about unity and communion among all the members. He encouraged the women religious to take their rightful place in the CMRS, and in the Church. He promoted full participation in the decision-making process. Working closely with him was a learning experience.

At this point we take the opportunity to express our gratitude mostly as women religious since he had contributed immensely for the growth of young religious through his retreats seminars and other valuable guidance such as discernment.

He was an excellent lecturer, a formator cum teacher. The past students of Sister formation often expressed their appreciation for the contents of his lectures, and for his methodology. His past students still remember him with much gratitude, and still speak of what they learnt from him.

Yes, years have passed, but his memories linger on ….. God called him to share in his suffering. His true sacrificial offering began. He bowed his head and proclaimed his fiat. He inspired many by his cheerful resignation to the will of God.

Those of us who have known him, have no doubt that he is already with the Lord, enjoying lasting peace and happiness. May he intercede for all of us from his privileged place in heaven. We wish you farewell dear Father  Kuri so that you may take your place in the heavenly court among the saints and the angels.
